Frederick N. Deland


Frederick Nelson Deland was an American soldier who fought in the American Civil War. Deland received the countrys highest award for bravery during combat, the Medal of Honor, for his action during the Siege of Port Hudson in Louisiana onMay 1863. He was honored with the award onJune 1896.

Deland was born in Sheffield, Massachusetts onDecember 1843. He enlisted into the 40th Massachusetts Infantry. He died onAugust 1922 and his remains are interred at the Mahaiwe Cemetery in Great Barrington, Massachusetts.
